Alfred Freebody enlisted in the 5th AIF in June 1915, aged 22.
Alfred was never to embark with his mates. He sadly suffered with acute splemic anaemia and died in Williamstown Hospital in October 1915.
He sent his friend Maud Bear (nee Hillier) a portrait after he enlisted, which she kept in her photograph album.
