Douglas Rich attended North State School. Prior to enlistment he was employed by Mr J W Elsum, baker.
Douglas Rich was the grandson of master mariner, Pilot Rich, identified with Williamstown for many years and the nephew of Mr and Mrs T Lonsdale.
Mr and Mrs Lonsdale's son, Henry Rich Lonsdale (also on the Williamstown Town Hall Honour Board) died from wounds in France in May 1917
